What is an ILC?

Ignatian Life Community (ILC) groups usually have between 6 to 10 members and meet regularly (usually weekly) to pray, reflect, and discuss issues of life and faith. Based in Ignatian spirituality, ILCs help members find God in all things and discover their calling in life. Participants do no have to be Catholic Christian or any other denomination of Christian to be in an ILC or even religious/spiritual; all are welcome and all can find value and community in the ILC groups. 

What is a meeting like?

Each meeting involves opening and closing prayers, sharing on how you have encountered God in your week or tried to be your most authentic self-rooted in Love, and an Ignatian reflection experience and discussion. The experiences usually center on an aspect of Ignatian spirituality and can include meditation, art, scripture, journaling, and more.

ILC General groups and Affinity Groups:

A general ILC group is open to any Loyola student and is made up of students from across campus. Many students join a general group if an affinity group they may feel called to does not exist or they just want to try out ILCs.

An ILC affinity group is exactly the same as a general group, except the members already know they share something in common. Both groups operate the same and cover the same material. Affinity groups can share almost anything in common, like the students are in the same class, the same Greek org, the same athletic team, the same residence hall or floor, the same student org, etc. If a student or group of students would like to start and ILC affinity group, they can contact University Minister for Communal Reflection Hunter Darrouzet or just indicate their group name on the registration. Affinity groups can form at any time.

Current Affinity groups that meet: LGBTQIA+ group, Loyola Institute of Ministry graduate student group. Past affinity groups have included: Athletics, Spanish Speaking, Secular.

Registration windows for Spring 2025

Monday, February, 17 - Friday, February 21

Monday, March, 17 - Friday, March 21

Please go HERE to register for a general or affinity ILC group.

If you miss a registration window, you can go ahead and register until March 21 and we will contact you in the next window. No need to wait.
