Orientation FAQ Guide

FAQ Answers

If I attend a later Orientation session, will I have difficulty registering for courses?

No.  Each college will preregister students in early summer for some of their courses, both within the common curriculum and the major (if applicable).  When you meet with your advisor at Orientation, you will review your schedule and in most cases choose an elective.

How can I change my Orientation date?

You can change your Orientation date by logging into your Admissions portal and selecting Register for New Student Orientation.  You can edit or remove your registration and request a new date.  Please note that sessions will be closed based on space availability so we encourage you to register for your selected date as soon as possible.

Do I have to attend Orientation?

Yes, orientation is required for all new students. It is essential that you attend so that you can learn about the academic program, receive academic advising, and register for classes.

Are my parents/guardians really required to attend?

We strongly encourage parents to attend Orientation, but they are not required.  Due to space limitations, each student is limited to a maximum of two parents or guests.

Do I have to stay on campus during Orientation?

Students do not have to stay on campus during Orientation, but we highly recommend it. It’s a great time to meet new people, hang out with your Krewe Leaders, and see what residence hall life can be like.  Students who are not living on campus in the fall can still stay on campus during New Student Orientation.

Can my parents/family stay on campus?

Parents and families do not stay on campus during Orientation and will need to reserve accommodations in the city for their stay.  We encourage parents and families to check out the Hotel Accommodations site for information on local hotels.

Can I arrive early or stay late after a session?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer early or extended stays due to early arrivals or late departures in the residence halls during Orientation sessions.

Am I permitted to leave campus during Orientation?

Because Orientation is an important academic and social experience, full student participation is needed.  Students are expected to be on campus for all Orientation events.

Do I have to pay the $250 fee when I come to orientation?

No.  The fee will included your student tuition statement.
