RA Selection 2016

We are now hiring for Summer and Academic Year Resident Assistants for 2016-2017. Being an RA isn't for everyone, but it was for people like Hillary Clinton, Jay Leno, Wesley Snipes, Katie Couric, Mike Ditka, Adam Sandler, and many more! Whether you plan to be famous or not, being an RA will challenge you to grow and learn new things, and will help you build leadership skills at the same time.

Duties of an RA

As an RA, you will:

  • Educate students on campus resources, University policies and building inclusive communities through programs, events, and one on one coversations. We will train you to be a knowledgable and experienced resource.  
  • Support students in their transition to the University, living on campus, making new friends and the path to graduation. You are a intrgral part of the the satisfaction and scuccess of our resident students!
  • Advocate on behalf of your residents to create a healthy, clean, inclusive and fun floor community. Also, teaching your floor members how to advocate for themselves as they navigate roommate relationships, social circles, busy course schedules, etc. Always keeping in mind people for and with others.
  • Lead by modeling positive behavior and choices. You will grow in your own leadership experience and have the distintive expeirence of connecting resident students to leadership opportunities of their own.                                                                                                   

All of these actions contribute to a healthy, safe, engaging and fun residential expereince!

Sample RA Job Description

Time Commitment

RAs can expect to commit 20-25 hours per week to the position, including attendance at campus events, weekly staff meetings, and regular trainings. RAs can expect to be on duty 1-2 times per week. RAs also have an informal commitment to their residents, including time spent mentoring, supporting, and socializing. 

Academic Year RA's are hired each spring for the following academic year. Campus responsibilities begin about three weeks before classes start in the fall and end after Finals each semester. Some preparation time during the summer will be required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student at time of application and throughout term of employment
  • Minimum 2.75  Cumulative GPA at time of application, and must achieve a minimum 2.75 GPA for each semester throughout the term of employment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment
  • Time management and organizational skills required
  • Successful applicant will demonstrate a firm commitment to helping others and to advancing the mission and Jesuit values of Loyola University New Orleans
  • Great attitude, willingness to learn, and a passion for the PACK!


Academic Year RAs receive payment to cover the cost of their room and the 75 block meal plan (includes $500 Wolfbucks). 

Summer RA's receive a room on campus at no cost, a Wolfbuck stipend, and an hourly wage.
